Former Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, Msgr. Piero Pioppo who alafnet.com reported months ago sneaked out of Cameroon has now returned to Yaounde and should officially bid farewell to the Cameroonian bishops in the coming days.
A ebugnti.wordpress.com source close to the roman Catholic Church, has informed the french daily that Bishop Piero Pioppo has been in Yaoundé for a few days. If this information is correct , it would put an end to the assumptions which have been going on for several weeks around Vatican diplomacy.
The now-former Apostolic Nuncio in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea had left his host country a few weeks just after the funeral of Bishop Jean Marie Benoît Bala of Bafia diocese, who was brutally murdered.
Ebugnti adds that, he should say farewell to the episcopate and the Church of Cameroon, before finally leaving for Jakarta in Indonesia, where he now represents the Holy See.
He is expected to meet Cameroonian authorities, to talk on diplomatic issues .Mgnr. Pioppo unceremonious departure from Cameroon had been highly linked to the scandal of the kidnapping and assassination of the of Bishop Bala, but a source has played down the allegations calming he was on holiday.
Bishop Piero Pioppo was received on 22 September 2017 in Rome by Pope Francis, in his new capacity of Apostolic Nuncio in Indonesia.
