Cameroon is to build a generic pharmaceutical company in the litoral region.According to reports reaching Alafnet.com, the plant already said to be a significant step forward for Cameroonian medicine,the drug making facility will be the first in Central Africa.
The initiative to build this pharmaceutical company in the country comes from the fact that Cameroon imports drugs estimated at several billion FCFA .To reverse this trend , this project lead by Africure will crest a drug production unit located in Yassa, at the eastern entrance of Douala.
During the inauguration ceremony last Tuesday, the Minister of Public Health , André Mama Fouda took the opportunity to appreciate the quality of the plant which is to be built in a partnership between the Cameroonian private sector and an India company.
At a cost of 5 billion FCFA, the plant will cover a 10 m2 surface area with a capacity of one billion tablets.and should aldo consist of two laboratories sections namely:. phytochemistry and microbiology.
According to Dr. Prosper Hiag, chair of Africure’s board of directors,plant will be a generic drug manufacturing unit.Hr slso notes that the idea behind the creation of the plant is not only to participate in health security in Cameroon, but also to reduce up to 60%, the percentage of imported drugs.
