Cameroon : Mystical Intruder Gives Governor of restive region Warning Letter In His Living Room Mon, 05 Mar 2018 04:08:29 +0000 If there has ever been a day colonial Governor of Southern Zone, Bernard Okalia, Bilai, met face-to-face with death, then Thursday March 1, 2018, was that day.

According to a very authoritative source at the colonial Governor’s Buea Town residence, Okalia Bilai sweated his life as he came head-on with a secret delivery guy, right in his living room. He told BaretaNews that Okalia Bilai is yet to recover from the shock.

As the story goes, Okalia Bilai was watching the late night news in his house, when all of a sudden, someone appeared and delivered a note to him. The adrenaline flow that petrified him, forced him to be speechless for all that long.

The source indicated that they only got Okalia screamed several minutes after the intruder had purportedly disappeared.

“We got a loud noise from Okalia’s living room, speaking in French that thorough search be carried out in his entire compound. Extra lights were borrowed from the Buea Town stadium and planted in his compound. Yet, no one was seen but the governor and his family, plus the college of soldiers guarding him. We only saw him with a note, said someone came and gave him. I strongly believe the intruder used black magic,” the source told BaretaNews.

Though no one but Okalia and his cohorts, know the content of the letter, it is highly speculated that the letter was a note of warning to Okalia and his état-major, to be on their guard. The planned abduction of all colonial living forces in Buea is imminent.

At least for once, Okalia Bilai, remained helpless in his own pool of sweat as his colonial soldiers could not protect him. He now knows that with out without the army guarding him, his life can be taken at anytime.

The information is coming at a time an anonymous caller had sent dangerous signals to the colonial forces, through one of the staff of the fake news, CRTV.

It should be noted that ever since Okalia Bilai got that letter, he immediately evacuated his family to Douala. Sources say, Okalia now lives and work from Douala.

Cameroon jails 2 CRTV Buea Staff, Others Interrogated Amid Leaked Social Media Letter Mon, 05 Mar 2018 03:51:13 +0000 At least two workers at CRTV Buea, are currently being detained over allegations of leaking to Social Media, a letter meant for the colonial governor.

According to an authoritative source who pleaded for anonymity, a journalist working with CRTV Buea, and a worker at the secretariat, are both behind bars, at the Central Police Station in Buea Town.

The journalist in question, is accused of conniving with the secretary and had a letter written by the Station Manager, Kange Williams Wasaloko, to Okalia Bilai, snapped and sent to Social Media.

The letter had indicated that in the days, weeks or months ahead, some major abductions will be made in Buea, including taking over CRTV Buea.

The source indicated that the secretary was pinned down, following an investigation that showed the office where the picture was taken, and the contents on the table at the time.

Besides the two arrested, the source told BaretaNews that some top brass at CRTV Buea like junior staff, have also been interrogated. Investigations are on high gear to fish out the person who sent the letter.

It is worth mentioning that CRTV Buea is on high security surveillance at the moment. The security around the premises, has been beefed up, with regular patrols undertaken from time to time.

BaretaNews was also told that staff at CRTV Buea now work in total fear as no one knows who will be jailed. Suspicion and counter suspicion looms among workers at the CRTV complex.

Cameroon: Who is ATANGA NJI ? Sat, 03 Mar 2018 09:34:14 +0000
Atanga Nji

Atanga Paul Nji is the first Feyman I ever met in my life. I was a student in Yaounde university when he showed up at my students room near CRADAT Ngoa Ekele. He was visiting my roommate who had been his classmate in Saint Bedes College Ashing Kom. Atanga had left St Bedes without graduating and nobody could tell what he was doing as a source of income at that period. But he told us that he was National President of an organisation called International Youth Organisation or Movement which Ghadaffi is the general World President. First he presented a business card printed in colour describing himself as the national President of the International Youth Organisation.

hqdefaultAtanga Nji,Minister of special duties at the presidency of Cameroon

Back in the days a well printed business card in colour was a rarity and there is no way we could not believe him – since the being a colour card it looked as authentic as anything could get. It was as true as money.. Secondly he pulled out a photograph in which he was shaking Ghadaffi’s hand. That was way back about 1982 . How could we not believe him? Nobody at the time knew of the wax museum at Madame Tussauds in London, New York, or Paris, or wherever he had managed to get that snapshot taken. We had never heard that such a place existed where the waxed figures of important world leaders and other kinds of celebrities were on public display and anyone could get in and pose with these wax figures. And then nobody would know those were wax figures and not real human beings. If I remember clearly he too was in a picture shaking hands with Margaret Thatcher British PM at the time.

A couple of years later when I arrived the US and became aware of these possibilities to fake meetings with world leaders – and then heard he had had been sent to jail for some kind of crime related to feymania my encounter with this man back in 1982/3 flooded back to me like a film. For God;s sake if this man had bothered to ask every one of us in Yaounde University to contribute 1000frs each for membership in that his so called International Youth Organization or Movement – whichever thing he called it at the time, we wouldn’t have hesitated. Our ignorance about issues was not as bad as it is with Cameroon’s undergraduates today but it was really profound. Colour pictures were a novelty at the time in Cameroon since all such colour films had to be sent to France for printing. And then somebody shows up your doorstep with a very bright colour picture with him shaking hands with our then African hero Muahmar Ghadaffii,- why would we not believe him? This Atanga Paul Nji was way ahead of most Cameroonians in Feymania.

A staunch and fervent ally of Paul Biya over the decades, Paul Atanga Nji has been handed the herculean task of managing a ministry that has been at the heart of the storm in the past 18 months-The Ministry of Territorial Administration.

It is still unclear who is behind the  burning down of part of the SDF Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi ‘ s house on the night of February 28, 2018 .

local residents have accused the forces of law and order for the attempt to bring down the entire compound and then to turn around and blame it on Ambazonia activists . Neighbors hold that Fru Ndi ‘ s house is heavily guarded by soldiers and police from Yaounde and so it will be strange that other persons could succeed to drop fire in the compound.

Soldiers have raped, looted, beaten disappeared and even beheaded civilians besides   burning down several schools they were guarding , including Sacred Heart College, Mankon all in an attempt to justify the use of excessive power on unarmed civilians in this part of the country  since the Southern Cameroonians crisis began more than a year ago.

Uk:Theresa May rejects EU’s draft option for Northern Ireland 39 minutes ago Wed, 28 Feb 2018 20:30:51 +0000 May: I’ll make opposition to plans ‘crystal clear’ to EU

An EU proposal for the Northern Ireland border threatens the “constitutional integrity” of the United Kingdom, Theresa May has said.

The EU’s draft legal agreement proposes a “common regulatory area” after Brexit on the island of Ireland – in effect keeping Northern Ireland in a customs union – if no other solution is found.

Mrs May said “no UK prime minister could ever agree” to this.

The EU says the “backstop” option is not intended to “provoke” the UK.

Unveiling the draft agreement, EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier called on the UK to come up with alternatives.

He said the text was “no surprise” and was just a legally-worded assessment of what had been agreed so far.

Mr Barnier said the document contained “concrete and realistic solutions” in relation to the question of how to avoid a hard border once the UK leaves the EU’s customs union.

Other options – a UK-EU deal that means checks are not needed and technological solutions – will also be explored.

Media captionMichel Barnier: I’m not trying to provoke anyone
Speaking at Prime Minister’s Questions, Mrs May said she would be making her opposition to the “backstop” option “crystal clear” to the EU commission.

“The draft legal text the commission have published would, if implemented, undermine the UK common market and threaten the constitutional integrity of the UK by creating a customs and regulatory border down the Irish Sea, and no UK prime minster could ever agree to it,” she said.

The prime minister was responding to a question from David Simpson of the Democratic Unionist Party, which gives the government the Commons support it needs to win key votes in the House of Commons.

Earlier the DUP’s Westminster leader Nigel Dodds said his reaction to the publication was one of “amazement” that the EU thought it “could possibly fly with either us or the British government”.

“We did not leave the European Union to oversee the breakup of the United Kingdom,” he told the BBC, adding that it would be “catastrophic” for Northern Ireland to be “cut off” from UK markets.

Conservative Brexiteers have also said it is “completely unacceptable” and would effectively annex Northern Ireland.

There is also opposition to any role for the European Court of Justice after Brexit – the EU is proposing that disputes over the Brexit agreement in future years be settled by a “joint committee” which can refer to the EU’s court for a binding decision.

Downing Street said that overall the negotiations were “progressing well”, adding that “it would be surprising at this point if we did agree on everything”.

Media captionWill the bridge that unites the two villages be used to divide them?

Media captionWould you notice if you crossed the Irish border?
According to the draft text, the “backstop” would involve an “area without internal borders in which the free movement of goods is ensured”, covering customs, VAT, energy, agriculture, goods and other sectors.

“The territory of Northern Ireland… shall be considered to be part of the customs territory of the Union,” it says.

The Irish government said this option was “very much a default and would only apply should it prove necessary”.

Ireland’s foreign affairs minister Simon Coveney said the publication was “another important step in the Brexit negotiations”.

Labour says it would solve the Irish border question by entering into a new customs union with the EU, meaning checks are not needed as people and goods pass between Northern Ireland and the Republic.

Shadow Brexit Secretary Sir Kier Starmer said: “The EU-UK Government war of words needs to end.

“There can be absolutely no deviation from the solemn commitments made to Northern Ireland at the end of the first phase of Brexit negotiations. That means no hard border or any agreement that would undermine the Good Friday Agreement.

“Theresa May’s failure to offer any viable solution to the border in Northern Ireland has come back to haunt her.”

North Korea ‘providing materials for Syria chemical weapons’ Wed, 28 Feb 2018 17:12:51 +0000 There have been recent reports of chlorine gas attacks in the eastern Ghouta region
North Korea has been sending equipment to Syria that could be used to make chemical weapons, a UN report says.

Some 40 previously unreported shipments were made between 2012 and 2017, the report found. Materials included acid-resistant tiles, valves and pipes.

The leaked report says North Korean missile specialists have been seen at Syrian weapon-making centres.

The allegations follow new reports of chlorine being used by Syrian forces, which the government denies.

Meanwhile, for a second day, a “pause” in fighting has failed to hold in the Eastern Ghouta region outside Damascus.

The daily five-hour pause was meant to allow aid to enter and civilians to leave the rebel-held area through a humanitarian corridor.

But as with Tuesday, the truce was marred by violence. Activists reported hearing missile strikes and barrel bombs, while Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused “militants” of blocking access to the humanitarian corridor.

What are the allegations against North Korea?

North Korea is under international sanctions over its nuclear programme.

Is North Korea just playing the US?
But a confidential report, compiled by a UN Panel of Experts which assesses North Korea’s compliance with UN resolutions, found evidence of illicit supplies sent to Syria.

The report, which has been seen by the BBC, details the “innovative evasion techniques” used by North Korea to send items such as high-heat, acid-resistant tiles, corrosion-resistant valves and thermometers.

The Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC) – a Syrian government agency – is alleged to have paid North Korea for the equipment via a number of front companies.

The SSRC is promoted by the Syrian government as a civilian research institute but a Western intelligence agency told the BBC last year that chemical weapons were being manufactured at three SSRC sites – Masyaf, in Hama province, and at Dummar and Barzeh, both just outside Damascus.

Barzeh was named in the UN report as one of the chemical weapons and missile facilities North Korean technicians had been seen operating at.

The Syrian government told the UN panel that the only North Koreans present in Syria were sports coaches and athletes.

Among the alleged shipments from North Korea to Syria, at least five were sent via a Chinese trading firm, Cheng Tong Trading Co Ltd, the UN report says.

The shipments allegedly contained acid-resistant tiles – which can be used for activities conducted at high temperatures – of a quantity that would cover the area of a large scale industrial project.

While the seized items “do not appear on any control lists”, they included “materials that can be used to build bricks for the interior walls of [a] chemical factory”, the report noted.

North Korea flouting sanctions, UN told
China responded to the UN panel’s findings, saying it had no “evidence demonstrating the Cheng Tong Trading Co has business with” any North Korean entities in violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric did not say whether the leaked report would be published, but told the New York Times: “I think the overarching message is that all member states have a duty and responsibility to abide by the sanctions that are in place.”

The UN Panel issued a report last September, which said it was “investigating reported prohibited chemical, ballistic missile and conventional arms co-operation” between Syria and North Korea.

What is Syria’s official position on chemical weapons?
Syria signed up to the Chemical Weapons Convention and agreed to have its declared chemical weapons stock destroyed in 2013 after a Sarin nerve agent attack killed hundreds of people in rebel-held suburbs of Damascus.

It has been accused of repeatedly using banned chemical weapons in the civil war since then.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) concluded that Sarin was used in Khan Sheikhoun, a rebel-held town in Idlib province, last April in an incident that killed more than 80 people. OPCW and UN investigators are confident the Syrian air force was to blame.

Suspected chlorine attacks have been recently reported in Syria, including on Sunday in the Eastern Ghouta.

Why is North Korea’s involvement controversial?
Experts say North Korea has long offered military supplies and weapons know-how around the world in exchange for cash.

The UN report also highlights its efforts to illicitly trade with dozens of countries and groups in the Middle East, North Africa and Latin America.

Last week, US President Donald Trump said Washington was imposing a fresh set of sanctions on North Korea, targeting more than 50 ships and maritime transport companies in several countries.

Media caption’Chance of N Korea war highest in decades’ says ex-US general
North Korea is already under a range of international and US sanctions over its nuclear programme and missile tests.

But it continued tests last year, including tests of a nuclear weapon and a long-range ballistic missile capable of reaching the US.

The US says the new sanctions are designed to put a further squeeze on North Korea, cutting off sources of revenue and fuel for its nuclear programme and clamping down on evasion of already existing restrictions.
